Your own little Japanese home
Staying at Yamagaso Hotel was like experiencing a cultural hug. Each moment felt carefully crafted, from the serene gardens to the incredible service by our attendant, Kimiko, who made us feel like family. Our standalone suite was private, beautifully designed, and complete with a delightful onsen. The traditional kaiseki meals were a feast for the eyes and palate, filled with intricate flavors and artistry.
The only hiccup was the language barrier. while some staff spoke English, many did not, which made certain aspects of the experience a bit challenging. Still, with a little patience, it all worked out perfectly in the end.

The traditional atmosphere was quite charming.
Unfortunately, the language barrier made communication difficult, resulting in confusion during our check-in process. We were also disappointed with the inconsistency of the shower temperature, which led to frustrating cold showers. Additionally, dining options were limited and not very filling compared to the cost, leaving us hungry after our meals.

Staying at Yamagaso blew me away! The Chouji room was such a lovely surprise, especially the tatami mats that added a traditional touch. I loved the gorgeous outdoor bath that we used at night. the ambiance was just right for relaxation. The meals were truly a highlight, served in grand portions. The kaiseki dinner options were beautiful and flavorful, although some dishes were an adventurous experience for my palate. The staff were exceptionally friendly, particularly Kimiko, who made us feel right at home. The location near Yumoto station was convenient, especially with the shuttle service. One downside was that the onsen facilities felt slightly less luxurious than I expected. The small 'semi-open air bath' in our room didn’t feel inviting, which was disappointing. However, the internal gardens added serenity to the experience. Staying here felt like a cultural embrace, and I really appreciated the attention to detail from the staff.

This place was a perfect match for a budget stay in Hakone with a great value-to-price ratio. The separate dining area in our room made me feel at home and was a nice touch. Be sure to reserve meals ahead, as outside dining options are limited.

The onsen options were fantastic, and the service was top-notch, really making us feel welcomed. The Japanese-style meals were an adventure. we appreciated their cultural authenticity and freshness. Don’t skip the outdoor baths—great views if the weather cooperates!
However, the language barrier made some interactions tricky. It was hard to communicate certain needs, and that added some stress to what could have been a more relaxing experience.
